Reconstruction of DUMBO Vinegar Hill
SRE Engineering, D.P.C. led construction management, inspection, archaeology, and community liaison services for a $103M Brooklyn coastal resiliency project that stabilized foundations with 75' deep CFA piles, installed high-level storm sewers, upgraded water mains, and restored Belgian block streets and granite curbs — all in compliance with DEP, DOT, and LPC standards. Located directly on the East River waterfront, this $103 million capital infrastructure project required advanced engineering solutions to address coastal flooding risks while preserving DUMBO and Vinegar Hill's historic character. The waterfront location demanded 75-foot deep CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) piles to achieve stable bearing capacity in challenging soil conditions and support critical infrastructure against storm surge and rising sea levels. The project delivered deep foundation stabilization, new high-level storm sewers engineered for flood mitigation, comprehensive water main upgrades, and meticulous restoration of Belgian block streets and granite curbs. SRE Engineering provided daily inspection oversight, ensuring all phases met NYCDEP, DOT, and Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) standards while minimizing disruption in this high-traffic, mixed-use waterfront neighborhood. Our team coordinated project management, resident engineering, construction inspection, archaeological monitoring, and community liaison services throughout construction, maintaining open communication with residents, businesses, and regulatory agencies.
